Short Bio
Sergii Putsov is a professional weightlifter with more than 20 years of Olympic lifting experience. He was a member of the National team in the past and competed in the 94 kg weight class. Sergii holds a master’s degree in Olympic & Professional Sport Training from the National University of Physical Education and Sport of Ukraine. He also obtained a Ph.D. in Sport Science from the International Olympic Academy in Greece.
After his athletic career, Sergii transitioned into coaching, designing training programs, writing blog articles, providing live commentary for international weightlifting competitions, and hosting sport and fitness seminars worldwide.
Achievements
Sergii won multiple medals in national competitions and reached peak form nearly a decade after starting training in weightlifting, going 163/195 in competition and 165/200 in training as a 94 kg athlete. He also boasts the following awards:
- 🥇Gold medal at the National Students Championship in 2004
- 🥈Silver medal at the National Universiade in 2005
- 🥇Gold medal at the CIS 6th Military Spartakiad in 2005.
- 🥇Gold medal at the Hookgrip Spartakiad in the USA in 2016.
Education and Courses
Sergii received his PhD in Olympic & Professional Sport Training from the National University of Physical Education and Sport of Ukraine. He furthered his education at the International Olympic Academy in Greece and National du Sport de l’Expertise et de la Performance in France.
Sergii holds a master’s degree in Olympic & Professional Sport Training and a Ph.D. in Sport Science. He is also a certified fitness trainer and has:
- TRX Suspension Training Level 1 certificate obtained in July 2022
- Safe Sport Trained certification from the U.S. Center for SafeSport in March 2023
- Keys to Increasing Performance and NOT Getting Injured by Eleiko in September 2022.
About Coaching
Sergii brings a unique perspective to coaching since 2006, having survived the Ukrainian weightlifting system and then undertaking his Ph.D. to learn more about exercise physiology. His dissertation focused on the training differences between men and women in weightlifting. Sergii’s approach to coaching emphasizes building confidence, understanding individual differences, and focusing on proper technique.
