Tank’s Unbelievable Feat
We’re starting off with a bang! Eishiro “Tank” Murakami, the weightlifter, amazed the entire world by squatting an incredible 300 kilograms for 10 reps! Can you believe that? His extraordinary strength and determination set a new standard in weightlifting and inspired athletes all over to push their limits. Tank’s achievement will go down in history as a shining example of never giving up on your dreams!
IWF’s Game-Changing Decision
In a groundbreaking move, the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) took a huge step towards making the sport more inclusive and fair. They decided to remove undergarment regulations, which means that all athletes can now compete on an equal footing. The strength community loved this positive change, showing that diversity and unity are what make the sport so special.
Ukrainian Power at the European Championships
In Romania, the 2023 European Weightlifting Championship for juniors under 20 and youth under 23 was a sensation! Two amazing athletes from Kharkiv, Svitlana Samulyak and Maria Gangur, dominated their weight categories and won three gold medals each!
Samulyak lifted 98 kg in snatch, 117 kg in clean & jerk, and reached a total of 215 kg, while Gangur lifted 96 kg in snatch, 116 kg in clean & jerk, with a total of 212 kg. These incredible ladies showcased their talent and left us in awe!
Also, Kamila Konotop, a star from Ukraine, is making waves in the weightlifting world! Competing in the under-23 category, she set three new records in the snatch, clean & jerk, and total. She lifted an astonishing 107 kg in snatch, 130 kg in clean & jerk, and reached a total of 237 kg!
Weightlifting Streets in the Olympic city of Lausanne
Switzerland hosted an electrifying event, the second edition of the “Swiss Street Weightlifting”. Athletes from all corners of the world showcased their incredible power and skills. Ihor Shymechko is a renowned Ukrainian weightlifter. He has represented his country in several Olympic Games, notably in 2008, 2012, and 2016. His impressive career includes winning the European championship in 2009 and earning a silver medal in 2011 in the +105 kg division. Shymechko also earned a Ph.D. from Lviv State University of Physical Culture.
